CAN YOU SAY WITH CONFIDENCE THAT YOUR FACILITY IS FREE FROM “UNNECESSARY MEDICATIONS?”
Kalamazoo Long Term Care Pharmacy is introducing a F329 Mock Survey Service for “Unnecessary Medications.” Simply stated, it is the duty of your Consultant Pharmacist to make sure that your facility will be found citation free in regards to the use of “Unnecessary Medications.” This mock survey offers the Long Term Care Facility a way to ascertain that the Consultant Pharmacist is effectively completing their duties. The inspection includes a thorough (Full Chart/MAR) Medication Regimen Review for 25-30% of the facility’s residents and a general audit of Pharmacy Services. The forms that will be used are the same forms that the state surveyors use to conduct their annual audits. The survey will conclude with a face to face discussion of findings with the administrator and Director of Nursing along with a written report documenting any irregularities found. This survey is designed to warn facilities of possible areas of citation prior to the actual survey when there is still time to make corrections.
The Mock Survey will be performed by a Long Term Care Pharmacist with a Doctorate of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.), and Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy (CGP). The Long Term Care experience of the surveying pharmacist includes several years as a Senior Consultant Pharmacist and Clinical Coordinator. This experience included completing comprehensive medication regimen reviews, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, developing pharmacy policy and procedures, training and supervising a team of consultant pharmacists and providing educational materials to both pharmacists and pharmacy clients.
